Latin Resources
Advice for Learning Vocabulary
This website gives some tips for how to come up with a way to attach an English meaning to a Latin word, as well as practice in recalling the words from memory.
Present Tense Ending Songs
These are the links to the Latin present tense ending songs. I did not write nor perform either of these:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLFeOLN8ohI
This song has just the present tense endings.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mdm38ampiEw
This song goes beyond just the present tense endings.
Whitaker's Words
This website is an online dictionary created and maintained by Notre Dame University's Classics department. It will give you the base forms of the words, and will go English to Latin or Latin to English.
Latin Verb Synopsis Drill
This is a "drill" website that allows students to test their knowledge of verb endings. It provides practice on all forms of the four verb conjugations. When answers are submitted, it provides instant feedback on the number of correct responses. This would be a good site to reference for students to practice before exams.
A Glossary of Rhetorical Terms with Examples
This website would be of great value to intermediate to advanced Latin students. As the title suggests, it contains a glossary of Rhetorical Terms with examples in Latin and English. This would be a quick and easy way for students to build their understanding of these complicated terms.
Sentence Diagramming Instruction
This website instructs students how to diagram a sentence before translation; while also helpful in English class, this is specifically advantageous to have in a Latin class because it includes sentence structures more common in Latin and Latin textbooks than in common English. It makes sure to cover the bases which the students will encounter. Diagramming is the only way many students can make sense of Latin, and even many college students continue to break down their sentences this way!
The Roman Gods
This website gives very basic information about the main 12 Olympians, with brief descriptions of some of their myths.
Learn Latin Quickly
This website breaks down grammar by declension, conjugation, word order, and vocabulary. This would be a great resource to consult if you are having issues understanding the way I'm describing how something works, or just as a review of concepts.
